Cafe Solidario Jaen
Elevation Ave: 1880
Farm Name: Cafe Solidario Jaen
Jaen is home to the largest city in the area as well as being the base for the larger COOPs and traders. Because of the proximity to these offices, farmers in this region have generally benefited from better access to seminars or other agricultural resources. Most of the farmers in the older iteration of the Solidario program started in this district because of the work at Origin Coffee Lab. The areas in Jaen have more variance in terms of climate. Some farmers enjoy a slight breeze passing through their farms which allows for a cooler drying process, while other areas are slightly more humid. The common varieties in the area are typica, pache and caturra.
This wonderful coffee is sourced via the amazing team at Origin Coffee Lab in Cajamarca, Perú. At the core of OCL ethos is their Solidario program. The program provides a holistic developmental model that empowers farmers. They deliver both economic and agricultural modelling to each producer in order to provide a springboard for success. These curriculums are designed to encourage cup quality while also making coffee farming a consistently profitable practice for future generations.
This specific set of producers from Jaen were in need of better market access, so OCL organized them into various regions to better train and finance their operations. For 2 seasons these groups worked exclusively with OCL, after that they moved to an independent position. This move was mostly so they could sell some of the lower scoring coffees to local markets easier. Their higher scoring coffees are what OCL cup and bulk for blender options.
