Founded in 1972, Addis Exporter pioneered modern coffee export business in Ethiopia. It is the oldest coffee exporting company in the country who has been around operating coffee businesses for almost 50 years now. Over the past several years, Addis Exporter has capitalized a great deal of knowledge and experience that helped the company to better define core values of their coffee business: high quality, traceability, transparency, genuine farmer relationship and sustainability.

With a very complex nature and unstable changes in the Ethiopian coffee industry, it has not been an easy move for coffee exporters to update their coffee sourcing approaches in accordance with new coffee marketing and quality control policies and regulations. It was a very recent history that the majority of Ethiopian coffee lots used to be traded only through the Ethiopian Coffee Exchange (ECX) marketing platform. But since 2017, the Ethiopian coffee industry has been more liberalized which has been favoring the existence of various flexible and legal coffee sourcing and marketing mechanisms. The new policy is encouraging several investors to join the coffee export business and establish their own coffee washing station facilities. In 2019, Addis Exporter established a coffee washing station called Telila coffee washing station. The facility is located in Kercho Anderacha village of  Gera county, one of the highland coffee growing areas in Ethiopia. For the sake of marketing and grading purposes, Gera is categorized under Limu coffee. However,  as compared to other localities in the Jimma zone, Gera is exceptionally characterized by unique coffee varieties, semi forest coffee production system and high altitude farms.

This coffee lot is a blend of coffee berry disease (CBD)  resistant coffee varieties selected in 1974 and 1975. Dominantly it is a coffee variety called 75227 which is CBD resistant, high yielding and high quality coffee variety selected in 1975.  The 2021/22 crop season is their third season to produce different coffee types at their Telila coffee washing station. While the largest percentage of their production is fully washed coffee, natural coffee and processing lots via honey, anaerobic and carbonic fermentation are also produced as micro lots. Telila coffee processing station sources red coffee cherries from three different villages around the washing station.  These are Yukro, Kercho Anderacha, and Genji Challa villages. Red coffee cherries from each village are processed separately to create community separated lots. The same fully washed coffee processing technique is applied for each lot. Well ripe coffee cherries are pulped within 12 hours from time of picking. Immediately after pulping, the parchment coffee is soaked in clean water for 12 hours. Then, the parchment coffee is washed and water is changed to prevent over fermentation. Finally, the coffee is soaked for another 12 hours for the final stage of fermentation. In total, after 24 hours the coffee is fully washed with clean water and graded for the final stage of skin drying under shade followed by drying under sun on raised african coffee drying beds. On average it needs a total of 12 days to attain bean moisture content of 10.5%. Immediately after taking the parchment coffee off the bed, it is stored in airtight hermetic bags (Addis Exporter uses ecotact bags) and delivered to a final coffee processing facility owned by Addis Exporter.
