Farm Name: Sitio Sagrada Familia

Farm Type: 1. FARM

José Eraldo Oliveira Dias is the proud owner and operator of Sitio Sagrada Familia. The farm has been in the family for over 60 years, starting with his grandfather, who bought the farm to help support his eight children.

José’s journey in specialty coffee began in 2002, when he began investing in covered drying patios, a pulper to producer pulped natural and washed coffees as well as starting selective picking practices on the farm. Oblivious to the high quality he was producing, most of his production was sold into the commercial market for many years. In 2018 he approached our sister company Bourbon Specialty to sell them one lot, and when they told him how good the quality was, and the price premiums he could receive for it, he never looked back. Today the farm produces only segregated micro lots, and José has continued investing in raised beds and new production techniques to continually improve the quality of his coffees.

Sagrada Familia is located at 1150MASL in the town of Brejetuba, in the mountains of Espírito Santo. This region is considered to have a high altitude tropical climate, particularly when we consider the latitude of ES relative to the equator. Average temperatures in the area are 19 degrees celcius with moderate tropical rainfall.

The farm itself is 8 hectares, but there are only 3ha under production of purely Catucaí 785. All coffee is selectively hand picked from July to November and processed as pulped natural or washed coffee. pH and temperature are monitored throughout the fermentation process to ensure quality and uniformity, and each lot is dried alternately on raised beds and patios.
